Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the group reach places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Questers and Strategists tables.

Fans can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
